Safe journey my friend.
It is with great sorrow that I am writing to inform you of Dave’s passing on the morning of Saturday, January 19th. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends after a long and courageous fight. We will be holding a memorial service for Dave on Friday, January 25 at 1:-00 PM.

Memorial Service Location:
St. Peter’s Episcopal Church
334 14th Street, Del Mar, CA

(858) 755-1616

There will be a Celebration of Dave’s life immediately following the service at the home of Dennis & Shelley Hyndman (3446 Bumann Road, Olivenhain - see attached map for directions). We would be honored to have you attend. Please forward this to anyone not included in this email who loved and admired Dave.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Dave’s name to Salvation Army.

If you have any questions, please call Tracy Matthias at (850) 776-1369.
We contacted Jessica (Eric) Geipel, David’s neighbor who also works at UCSD Hospital and was very close to the process this last week.

Upon David’s return from Germany last week, he was taken directly to the Hospital, as his condition had complicated in pain and under heavy medication. With no further reason to remain in the hospital, he was moved home under hospice care.

He had a couple of lucid hours on Friday, recognizing his family and closest friends and put under very heavy medication once again, to give him relief during the night.

Three of his closest friends from his younger years drove that night from the Bay Area, who were able to share some good stories in a circle around David during his last moments on Saturday morning, for which he was conscious and showing his usual grin.

The family is making arrangements for a Memorial for this Friday or Saturday. We will be informed.

Jessica thinks that Randi and Alex will appreciate cards and any kind of support and care, most significantly for non-family members next week, when all has settled and most gone back home.

Sadly, Dave passed away on Saturday Morning; his wishes were to be cremated.
I do not know anything about a Memorial Service at the present time.

Flowers and cards may be sent to his home address:

Dave was a great guy and will be sadly missed.
